Sustainability management

Basic Concept

In March 2022, the Moriroku Group established a Sustainability Policy. The Moriroku Group Sustainability Policy outlines the role the company should play in achieving a sustainable society. The Moriroku Group aims to become a "400-year company" that addresses social issues through business activities that consider the interests of all stakeholders and earns even greater expectations and support from all stakeholders. Furthermore, we will endeavor to enhance information disclosure from the three perspectives of "Environment," "Social," and "Governance" to enhance our corporate value.

As illustrated in the figure, based on the philosophy system starting from the management philosophy, the Moriroku Group has established materialities in line with the Sustainability Policy, and these materialities form the foundation of the ideal state in 2030 and the medium-term management plan.

The Sustainability Policy of the Moriroku Group

Based on our management principles, we, the Moriroku Group, and our stakeholders will co-create the value required by the new age and contribute to the sustainable growth of society.

  1. We will work to solve social issues beyond conventional business areas by leveraging the Group’s functions and resources to the fullest.
  2. We will aim for a sustainable mobility society through innovative manufacturing that contributes to carbon neutrality and the cyclical use of resources.
  3. We will contribute to the achievement of an ecological, recycling-based society by providing green chemicals throughout the entire supply chain.
  4. Based on a foundation that respects human rights, we will continue to create new value through an organization that pursues employee wellbeing and in which diverse personnel participate actively and work with satisfaction.
  5. We will nurture mutual trust via highly transparent and honest business activities, understanding the expectations and requests of society through dialogue with stakeholders.

Sustainability Promotion System

Moriroku Holdings has established a Sustainability Promotion Division, reporting directly to the president, to oversee the Moriroku Group's sustainability initiatives. The Sustainability Promotion Division oversees the implementation of sustainability initiatives across the entire Moriroku Group. Additionally, two major operating companies (Moriroku Technology and Moriroku Chemicals) have set up a Sustainability Promotion Office under the direct control of the president to promote and disseminate activities within the organization. Moreover, Moriroku Holdings has established a Sustainability Committee, which the Sustainability Promotion Division serves as the secretariat for, with the objective of promoting and disseminating the activities of the Moriroku Group. The Sustainability Committee is responsible for formulating and monitoring policies and reporting to the Board of Directors. The committee is chaired by the president of Moriroku Holdings and, depending on the agenda, convenes the management and other members of each Group company, as well as outside directors and corporate auditors for discussions.

Priority Themes for Discussion by the Sustainability Committee (FY2023)

  • Addressing Climate Change Issues
  • Supply Chain Management
  • Respect for Human Rights
  • Progress management of materiality
  • We focus on strengthening governance by deliberating on a wide variety of topics to ensure sustainable business operations.
